Warwick and White the Next Aussie Spirit Leaders

Published Sat 09 Jul 2022

On the eve of the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Softball Australia is thrilled to announce that Clare Warwick and Belinda White have been appointed as the Captain and Vice-Captain respectively of the Australian Women's Softball Team, the Travelodge Aussie Spirit.

Warwick becomes only the 13th captain of the team since 1949, after the retirement of Stacey Porter last year. Warwick has played 238 games for Australia since her debut in 2005, and is the first Aussie Spirit captain from the ACT. She studied and played softball at the University of Hawai’i from 2006-2009, and has played in the Italian Softball League for Legnano.

Clare was Australia’s leading batter at the 2018 World Championship, and was again a strong contributor at both the 2019 Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifier and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

After playing 155 games for her country, Belinda White becomes the new Vice Captain of Australia. White debuted in 2011 at the Canada Cup, and has been a regualr feature of the line-up ever since, playing in four World Championships.

She has won an Under 19 and Open Women National Championship with South Australia, and she has also played semi-professionally in the Netherlands for DSS Haarlem.

Softball Australia CEO Rosie Williams OBE said, “We couldn’t be prouder to have Clare and Bel take the reins of the Travelodge Aussie Spirit. They are both fierce competitors on the field, and have demonstrated the sportsmanship and attitude we want as the 2024 World Cup comes into focus.

“The Travelodge Aussie Spirit continues to evolve, so it’s an exciting time for the team and the direction they are taking.”

Softball Australia again congratulates Clare and Belinda.
