Trzcinski and Thunder strike in opening FLS round

Published Fri 03 Sep 2021

Steph Trzcinski has the Emmsee Sportswear Thunder to the top of Softball SA’s Fully Loaded tournament with a stellar performance opening performance on both ends of the game.

The Travelodge Aussie Spirit representative got her team off to a bang with a grand slam home run in the top of the first against Bob Burns Blinds Phoenix.

She then proceeded to do her work from the circle racking up five strikeouts in the 11-6 victory, with all six runs being un-earned by the Phoenix with a number of errors coming from the victors.

Fortunately for the Thunder, they’d have the chance to rectify those errors with their second game of the night against the CPC Angels.

However, they would immediately be on the back foot, after Georgia Hood sent the first pitch of the game over the fence for 4-0 lead for the Angels.

After closing the deficit to one run in the bottom of the second, it was the older sister of Georgia, Amber Hood, who fired right back with a three-run shot over centerfield to give the Thunder a 8-4 lead heading into the final frame.

The Angels closed the gap to 8-7 heading into the bottom of the third, in the Fully Loaded format all innings are played with margins crucial in determining final placings, where the Thunder added two more to close out their opening round with a 10-7 win.

In the final game of the night, the Angels and the Phoenix chased their first win of the tournament, the Angels bats were firing as they raced away to a 12-4 win securing a valuable bonus point in the competition ladder.

The Hood sisters and Trzcinski are all on the board in the CPC Homerun race with a cash prize up for grabs for the players with the most dingers to the name at tournament’s end.

Softball SA’s Fully Loaded tournament continues next Thursday 9 September, live and free on the Softball SA and Softball Australia Facebook pages, courtesy of Spacequake Sports, from 7:00pm AEST.
