Softball South Australia joins One Softball with participation staffing the focus

Published Wed 07 Jul 2021

Softball South Australia is the third Member State following Softball ACT and Softball Victoria to agree to join the One Softball Governance Model.

A key outcome of One Softball is a significant boost to participation resourcing in the State, with three staff members now focused on supporting members associations and clubs, and ultimately increasing membership.

They will also have direct access to commercial partners of Softball Australia (both current and potential), marketing, communications, governance, human resources, legal, finance and accounting resources along with participation resources.

Importantly, Softball South Australia will continue to maintain their presence and identity via their Livestreaming and TV broadcasting, competitive Premier League, State pathway program and events.

“We’ve just had Belinda White selected to represent her country at the Tokyo Olympic Games. By 2028 we hope to have more homegrown South Australians on sport’s biggest stage,” said Don Cameron, President of the Softball SA Board.

“Under One Softball, we’re well equipped to achieve that goal with an all-new participation team and the support of Softball Australia and other Member States in the model.”

Softball Australia Chief Executive Officer David Pryles said confirmation of a third Member State joining One Softball has the sport gathering significant momentum ahead of a crucial period.

“We now have three Member States under the One Softball management model which is a significant step forward for our sport,” said Pryles.

“Softball SA joining is significant because they’ll now be able to have a full-time workforce in the participation space, and that’s our overarching goal, increase participation and specifically membership across the country.”

Under One Softball the sport will improve by:

  • Growing the sport and addressing the long-term membership decline;
  • Ensuring long-term financial sustainability;
  • Ensuring a consistent and coordinated approach to the experience of everyone involved in softball;
  • Delivering improved services to Members, Clubs, Associations and the wider Softball community by building capability and capacity at all levels of the sport, and;
  • Increasing revenue through the pooling of all commercial assets from States and the National body resulting in increased attractiveness to commercial partners for marketing and brand building purposes.
