Softball Australia creates space for integrity resources

Published Mon 22 Aug 2022

Softball Australia has launched a new integrity area on its website, giving members a dedicated information resource for all integrity matters.

The area has been built in consultation with Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) and covers integrity areas such as competition manipulation, doping, and behaviours that impact people’s positive experience of sport, such as discrimination or abuse.

The page also gives clear information on whether integrity matters fall under the responsibility of SIA or Softball Australia, and how to report integrity matters.

Softball Australia CEO Rosie Williams said, “Having a dedicated integrity resource available for our members has never been more important, and it is vital that any person who has an integrity complaint feels supported coming forward. These resources are the first step in offering that support.

“We take all integrity matters very seriously, and since the beginning of this year, we have adopted the National Integrity Framework, joined the National Redress Scheme, prosecuted breaches of our Code of Conduct, and renewed our supporter status with the Racism. It Stops With Me Campaign.

“We’ve also created a Member Benefits page that lets participants know about the advantages of becoming a member, and we will now develop an integrity toolkit that can be rolled out at Clubs and Associations, so that no matter at what level you participate in our sport, you’re covered by appropriate integrity framework and Code of Conduct,” Williams said.

“Integrity and member protection are an absolute priority for Softball Australia, and we will continue to evolve our processes to support the needs of the softball community.”

Softball Australia staff have completed the Sport Australia Essential Skills coaching course that includes child safeguarding standards, and Softball Australia also work with States and Territories to have similar resources included on all State and Territory websites.

The SIA toolkit for clubs and Associations will include:

  • Instructions on how to duplicate the Softball Australia Integrity webpage on their website.
  • SIA resources such as flyers, pamphlets, and posters that incorporate QR codes to provide members with relevant resources and information.
  • The SIA Dos and Don’ts booklet on Child Safeguarding.
  • Spectator Racism Guidelines and resources from the Australian Human Rights Commission.
