Softball Australia is delighted to announce Matt Harrow has been appointed as Captain, with Riley James and Jack Besgrove appointed as Vice Captains of the Under-23 Australian Men’s Team for the inaugural WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup.

Harrow, James, and Besgrove were all part of the 2022 WBSC World Cup winning Aussie Steelers team and will bring their winning mentality and world-stage experience to their leadership roles as the team departs for Argentina in their quest to claim the inaugural U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup trophy.

The team has been prepped by Head Coach, David Metekingi, who expressed his excitement ahead of the U-23 Men’s World Cup.

“I am thrilled to introduce our new leadership group for the U-23 men’s team: Captain Matt Harrow and Vice Captains Riley James and Jack Besgrove."

"These exceptional athletes were all part of the World Championship-winning Aussie Steelers team, and I have every confidence that they will provide strong leadership and maintain the winning culture that led us to victory just a few months ago.”

Matt Harrow will lead our Australian U-23 men’s team through the coming weeks of competition against some of the world’s best up-and-coming men’s teams and players.

“I am truly humbled to be named captain of the inaugural U-23 Men’s team. To lead a group filled with such calibre and class is a true honour. I am so excited to chase the gold with this outstanding group of players and staff.”

Congratulations to Harrow, James and Besgrove on their appointments to the leadership group. We are excited to see what the future holds for this talented young group of men who are about to take on the world!

Competition begins in the early hours of Sunday April 16th, with Australia’s first U-23 World Cup game against Singapore getting underway at 4:30AM AEST.
