Simplicity and flexibility the focus of newly revamped Home Run Heroes program
Published Wed 21 Jun 2023
After a significant review, Softball Australia’s junior participation product Home Run Heroes is being relaunched today, with flexibility, simplicity and support for clubs the major focus of the revamped program.
Recognising the significant work being done by volunteers nationwide to create and tailor programs for their local communities, the Home Run Heroes program is open and flexible to support those existing programs.
Where the program previously had a set curriculum, volunteers can choose to run the activities of their choosing along with the game mode that suits their members best.
Softball Australia Head of Participation Nick Frayne expressed the reasoning behind the major changes: “We wanted to support the volunteers who are running existing initiatives for 5-12 year olds in their communities.
Whether clubs are running t-ball, coach pitch, mod-ball, fun games or with competition elements like points and ladders, we’ve reworked Home Run Heroes to be more flexible to support them.”
“By bringing existing programs under the Home Run Heroes banner, clubs get access to the national Program Finder and can use all the templates, resources and social media posts available on the website, all in the name of helping to get more kids through the door.”
Simplicity is also a big focus for recruiting clubs into running a Home Run Heroes program. For clubs to create a Home Run Heroes program, there’s a simple registration form to get started available at homerunheroes.com.au
To help clubs to recruit kids into their programs the Softball Australia team have created a wide range of helpful templates and resources that clubs can use, and with a new suite of promotional videos (which program promoters also have access to) parents will get a better sense of the fun that their children will experience as part of a program.

The relaunch of the revamped Home Run Heroes program is being supported by workshops and presentations, including Participation Forums throughout the coming months.
