Softball Australia’s national Men’s team, the Aussie Steelers, are set to light up the diamond this December in an epic international softball exhibition against the New Zealand Black Sox. Softball Australia is thrilled to host this exciting matchup on home soil, bringing an action-packed December of elite softball to Australian fans.  

The New Zealand Black Sox will take part in Softball ACT’s prestigious annual SKINS event, before facing off against the Aussie Steelers in an exciting exhibition game day. Head Coach of the Black Sox, Thomas Makea has selected a squad of 17 athletes to compete at the Canberra Skins Tournament at the end of November, highlighting, “This is a valuable opportunity to go up against some of Australia’s top players in a format that will truly challenge our team.” 

The highly anticipated match day will take place on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Hawker Softball Centre in the ACT. Best of all? Entry is FREE, so fans can come and witness world-class softball right in the nation's capital. 

The Aussie Steelers’ last appearance was on the international stage at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Group 1 Qualifier in Mexico, where they punched their ticket to the 2025 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Men’s Softball World Cup Finals set to be held in Prince Albert, Canada, from July 8-13, 2025. There, the team will aim for back-to-back glory and cement their legacy as one of the greatest softball teams of all time. 

This exhibition day promises more than just senior men’s action. In addition to three senior men’s games, both Australia and New Zealand will field their U-23 teams for three exhibition matches, offering emerging players a rare opportunity to compete at the international level and gain invaluable experience on the world stage. 

Both teams have secured their places for the 2025 WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals, and this series will serve as crucial preparation ahead of next year’s world championships. 

Softball Australia’s CEO, Sarah Loh, shared her pride in the Men’s team’s accomplishments, saying, “We are delighted to welcome New Zealand, one of the world’s premier softball teams, to Australian soil. This event will highlight the incredible talent of our Aussie Steelers and create an electric atmosphere for fans of all ages. It’s a fantastic opportunity for both the Aussie Steelers and the New Zealand Black Sox to fine-tune their preparations for the 2025 World Cup, and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of this journey.”
