Softball Australia are pleased to announce that the Open Men’s and Women’s Grand Finals of the 2022 National Championships will be available live via the SBS On Demand platform, and across all Softball Australia digital and social platforms.

Live coverage on the SBS On Demand platform was achieved after Softball Australia reached an agreement with Spacequake Sports to produce the final day of competition.

Replays of selected finals, including the Gilley’s Shield grand final and John Reid Shield grand final, will also be available via National Indigenous Television (NITV).

Softball Australia Rosie Williams OBE said, “This is a wonderful outcome in the lead-up to the National Championships, and I’d like to thank SBS and NITV for working with us to have our games reach new and diverse audiences. Streaming the content to our social platforms also means we can engage with our traditional fan base from around Australia.

“We are also very excited about working with Spacequake to showcase these events. We have a commitment with Spacequake to innovate the production, so I look forward to seeing what new ideas we can bring to the coverage of our games.”

Spacequake General Manager David Muggleton was similarly buoyant about opportunities the new partnership would create, saying, “We’ve produced the Adelaide Premier League for a number of years, and this experience means we can cover the game in a way that resonates with fans. However, the agreement with Softball Australia means we can explore new ways of producing the game and take our coverage to the next level.”

NITV Head of Entertainment, Events & Creative, Adam Manovic also reflected on how the agreement will bring softball to new audiences, saying, “NITV is excited to have the finals of the Softball National Championships aired on our channel, and in doing so bring the Championships to audiences Australia-wide. We’re also looking forward to being able to share the Men’s and Women’s Grand Finals live via SBS On Demand.”
