Peta Searle Appointed as National High-Performance Director at Softball Australia

Softball Australia is thrilled to announce the appointment of Peta Searle OAM as the new National High-Performance Director. Bringing over two decades of professional sports experience, Searle will commence her role on the 13 December 2024.

Searle’s leadership will focus on enhancing athlete development and performance, creating elite training environments, and overseeing the selection process for Australian teams. Her strategic oversight will extend to managing all pathways for players and coaches at major competitions, including the Olympics and World Championships, as well as implementing initiatives to inspire a new generation of softball athletes.

Renowned for her trailblazing role as the first female coach in the AFL, inaugural AFLW coach of the St Kilda Football Club and her leadership in guiding the Darebin Falcons to five consecutive premierships in the Victorian Women's Football League, Searle’s appointment signals Softball Australia’s commitment to excellence.

Softball Australia CEO Sarah Loh expressed her enthusiasm for Searle's appointment, stating, "Peta broke barriers as the first female coach in the AFL and inspired women in sport through her leadership and advocacy for gender equality. Her ability to elevate high-performance programs, mentor athletes, and create positive change sets Peta apart as the perfect fit for this role."

Searle herself conveys a sense of excitement and determination. "There has never been a more exciting time for softball in Australia as we prepare for the 2026 World Cup Group Stage, 2027 World Cup Finals and LA 2028 Olympics qualification. There’s plenty of work to do, and I can’t wait to roll up the sleeves and get started," stated Searle.

The appointment of Searle reinforces Softball Australia's long-term vision for high-performance success, from team performance to athlete development.

Softball Australia is excited to embark on this new chapter under Peta Searle’s dynamic leadership. We are committed to a world class high-performance program for success and fostering a vibrant, inclusive community that champions excellence in sport. We invite our athletes, partners, and fans to support us on this exciting journey as we aim for success at the LA 2028 Olympics. Together, let’s continue to elevate Australian softball to the global stage and inspire the next generation of talent.
