Men’s National Squads Announced for 2023

Softball Australia is pleased to announce the Men’s National Squads for 2023.

The Elite Player Development Squad (players aged over 18 years) have been identified based on their performance at the recent Under-19 Men’s, Under-23 Men's and Open Men's National Championships, and/or performances in overseas competitions.

Included in this squad are team members who have recently been selected for the upcoming WBSC Under-23 Men’s World Cup, to be held in Argentina between 15-23 April 2023. Preparations are in full swing, and we look forward to seeing our young men compete on the international stage under the guidance of Under-23 Men’s Head Coach, David Metekingi.

The Talent Development Squad (players aged under 18 years) was selected based on the merit of players’ performances at the recent Under-16 Boys & Under-19 Men’s National Championships.

As previously communicated in our recent High Performance & Pathways update, there is yet to be any confirmation of dates or location of the 2023 Under-18 Men’s World Cup from WBSC. To support the ongoing development of players, Junior Steelers Head Coach Adam Rindfleish will be providing programs and training opportunities to TDS & EPDS players aged 17-19 years.

Due to the ongoing delays of this competition, the WBSC has extended the age requirements for the 2023 edition of the Under-18 Men’s World Cup to include athletes born in 2004 or later.

For those not selected into one of the national squads on this occasion, please bear in mind that this is only one of many opportunities to be identified as an athlete with elite potential as you progress through your softball career. Don’t lose heart. With hard work, good coaching and persistence there will be future opportunities to be involved in national squads.
