Softball Australia’s U18 Head Coach, Leigh Godfrey celebrates her graduation from the National Gen32 Program.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has celebrated the graduation of the first participants of the National Gen32 Program – an initiative aimed at providing a pathway to the Olympic, Paralympic, and Commonwealth Games coaching ranks.

Gen32, a collaborative program between the AIS, national sporting organisations (NSOs), and state sport institutes, offers early-career coaches a two-year paid internship within national sporting programs.

Coaches from 20 sports gathered at the AIS in Canberra for their graduation, where Australian Sports Commission CEO Kieren Perkins praised the programme for strengthening the coaching system. He highlighted the importance of exceptional coaches for achieving world-class athlete results, noting that many Gen32 coaches have supported Olympians and Paralympians.
