Softball Australia is proud to announce that volunteer and off-diamond memberships are now free at the national level, recognising the vital role that volunteers play as the lifeblood of Australian softball clubs and associations.  

Sport volunteers selflessly offer their time and expertise for the betterment of the sport, its participants, families, and the surrounding community.  

Softball Australia believe that it is crucial to acknowledge the immense value volunteers bring to softball and encourage more people to join their ranks while also providing better support for those already involved. 

The change means that off-diamond volunteers will no longer need to pay fees to be covered by the national insurance scheme, making it easier for more people to contribute to the sport and help build strong local communities. Volunteers are still encouraged to register and become members of their association or club however will not be charged to do so. 

"We hope that by making it free to become a volunteer or off-diamond member, we can encourage more people to get involved and make a positive impact on the softball community," said Softball Australia CEO, Rosie Williams OBE. "We want to celebrate all that volunteers bring to our sport while ensuring they receive the cover and support that they need to thrive." 

To further enhance Softball Australia’s commitment to celebrate our incredible volunteers, we are delighted to today announce our support of the Sport Volunteer Coalition Action Plan. 

Established in 2022, the Sport Volunteer Coalition have been working to understand how best to ensure the 2.9 million sport volunteers in Australia receive the recognition they deserve and raise awareness of the role they play. 

Softball Australia supports the Sport Volunteer Coalition’s vision for the future of sport volunteering in Australia which is for people from all walks of life to see and realise opportunities to contribute to individual, club and community goals in a way that suits them.
