Summary: Under 23 Men

Queensland and New South Wales asserted themselves early on the opening day of the tournament, recording big wins over the ACT (11-1) and Victoria (10-1) respectively. Cameron White, Riley James, and Owen Thompson did the damage with the bat for Queensland, while Haiden Reveco recorded an impressive five RBIs for NSW.

The ACT bounced back in their next game, recording a 3-2 win over NSW. The decisive moment came at the top of the 3^rd, where doubles by Ben Cashen and Lachlan Spinelli led to three ACT runs, who then conceded just two runs over the remainder of the game to hold on for the win.

New South Wales set the tone early in their game against Queensland, laying down six runs in the first inning. Queensland gave the Blue Bloods a fright in the top of the 7^th, scoring four runs and reducing the margin to two, but NSW held on for a 9-7 win. Aiden Kelly and Zane Howarth combining for five RBIs for the victors.

10 runs in the space of three innings closed out a 14-6 win for the host state in their afternoon game against the ACT. Henry Mullan, Hayden Gillett, Cody Smith, and Sam Seach each scored two runs for the Big V.

Queensland opened with four runs in the first two innings, and followed that up with another nine runs across the 4^th and 5^th innings, in a dominant display against Victoria. Joshua Harding and Joshua Harding and Layton Reid lead Queensland from the pitching circle, conceding one run and three hits in the 13-1 win.

Day 2 What to Watch For

NSW and Queensland have asserted themselves early in the tournament, with only Runs For separating them in the standings. They will look to create a gap over Victoria and the ACT as we move into Day 2, but expect another close encounter when they meet at 3pm tomorrow afternoon.

The ACT and Victoria both earned wins as well on the opening day and shouldn’t be discounted. Victoria especially have looked competitive on their home deck. A clearer picture of who the genuine contenders are should emerge throughout tomorrow.
