Summary: Under 16 Women

New South Wales jumped out of the blocks on Day 1 with comprehensive wins over South Australia (9-0) and the ACT (12-2). Both games lasted no more than five innings, giving the Blue Bloods plenty of early rest in what will be a demanding tournament.

Victoria and Queensland also started the day 2-0. The Big V notched wins over the ACT (9-2) and South Australia (7-4), while the Queenslanders earned their wins over Western Australia (6-5) and SA (17-1).

However, both teams fell short of a perfect start to the tournament, with Queensland suffering a 9-1 defeat to NSW, while Victoria fell to WA (12-11). WA later backed up that win with another in the evening, with a commanding 10-0 win over the ACT.

Day 2 What to Watch For: Under 16 Women

After a 3-0 start on Day 1, NSW face one of the toughest schedules on Day 2, with games against WA, Victoria, and Queensland. The opening game of Day 2 is also one to watch out for, with second-placed Queensland taking on third-placed Victoria.

Aside from the game against NSW, WA have games against SA and the ACT, and will want to win both to keep in touch with the front runners and earn the double-chance in finals.

SA and the ACT have looked competitive at times, but need to put together a 7-inning effort if they hope to close the gap on their opponents. They meet at 2pm tomorrow with a chance to break their respective ducks.

Summary: Under 16 Men

The opening day of the under 16 Nationals was exceptionally even, with each team recording a win and a loss through the first four games. Queensland looked dominant in their 14-0 win over hosts NSW, only to suffer an equally comprehensive loss to Victoria 16-4.

New South Wales bounced back with an 8-0 win over South Australia, and asserted themselves again later in the day with a comprehensive 13-2 win over Victoria.

SA edged out Victoria 7-6 in their opening game, but that was their only highlight of the day, later suffering consecutive 8-0 losses to NSW and Queensland.

SA 7 def VIC 6

Day 2 What to Watch For: Under 16 Men

New South Wales and Queensland are the only teams to register two wins from three games on Day 1, and if they can repeat that performance tomorrow, they may create a gap between themselves and South Australia and Victoria.

SA and the Big V must keep finding ways to so they finish in the top two and earn the double chance in the finals.

However, there is a long way to go in the tournament, and with every team playing three games each day, teams will need to manage their line-ups and be patient to stay in the race for a top-two position.
