Softball Australia is pleased to announce the following coaches have been appointed to roles supporting teams at the 2023 Canada Cup invitational tournament:

Softball Australia National Pathways Manager, Clare Humberstone, led the selection process for coaches and managers and was pleased with the number of expressions of interest submitted for the coaching roles.

“The interest for coaching is a clear demonstration of the enthusiasm for supporting national teams. Coaching is the cornerstone of athlete development and international competitions act as an opportunity to support both players and coaches to develop into world class performers.” 

“We have a strong group of managers in roles who have supported national teams over a number of years. It is fantastic to have their ongoing support, and we will be looking for opportunities to support that group whilst providing opportunities for more managers to be involved in supporting national teams.”  

Softball Australia will also appoint three battery coaches to positions for the Canada Cup teams after the conclusion of the Accelerate and Futures training camps at Australian Institute of Sport in April.   

“Supporting the development of battery coaches is a key focus area for Softball Australia, so we are extending the invitation for the April camps to a larger number of battery coaches,” said Clare Humberstone.

“This will provide an opportunity for them to work with our pitchers and catchers in the women’s Elite Player Development and Talent Development Squads, and for Softball Australia to continue developing future national team battery coaches.”

* Neridah Wearne has a family commitment that may compromise her availability for the tour, so in that instance Geoff Coultas will fill the role of ‘Australia A’ head coach. This appointment will be confirmed mid-May.
