Clare Walker joins Softball Australia as General Manager of Game Development

After an extensive national search in partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Softball Australia (SA) proudly announces the appointment of Clare Walker as the organisation's new General Manager of Game Development.

Walker will be joining the organisation after working in the GM of Participation and Para role for Badminton Australia (BA) since 2022, also serving as interim CEO of BA for five months prior to their CEO commencing. Her background also includes a role at Fernwood Fitness as National Programs Manager, an MBA from Melbourne Business School and degrees in Psychology and Human Movement from Deakin University.

Walker expressed her commitment to excellence and impactful leadership in taking the her role at SA, saying “I am thrilled to join Softball Australia and contribute to the development of such a passionate and vibrant sport. I look forward to collaborating with the community to enhance participation and drive the growth of softball nationwide. It's an exciting time for the sport, and I am eager to be a part of its future.”

In announcing the appointment, SA CEO Sarah Loh said “We’re excited to have someone with Clare’s background and experience that covers grassroots sports through to the elite level for a National Sports Organisation. Clare has been integral to building BA’s national participation strategy and the entry level program, ‘Shuttle Smash’.

“With Softball Australia’s focus on grassroots and the building of our junior participation numbers through schools and clubs, Clare is well placed to develop and drive – along with participation staff across the country - our new 2025 National Participation Plan.

“Clare also brings experience with the Sporting Schools Program and the education of Coaches and Officials which is another key focus for developing our whole-of-game strategy to support grassroots through to elite.”

Walker will commence in her new role at SA on Thursday 20 June.
