Aussie Spirit's Michelle Cox officially announces her retirement

As Michelle Cox officially announces her retirement from international softball, Softball Australia bids a fond farewell to a player whose dedication, talent, and spirit have left an indelible mark on the sport.
Reflecting on her career, Cox shared, "Playing alongside such talented and dedicated teammates, coaches, and support staff has shaped me both on and off the field and I will carry those memories with me always. The friendships I have built, the lessons I have learned, and the experiences I've had are things I will cherish forever."
Michelle, has enjoyed a remarkable career representing Australia at the highest levels of the sport. As player cap number 254, Cox made her debut in 2009 at the prestigious Japan Cup. and
At just 18 years old, Cox earned a place on the Australian team, marking her international debut with an impressive performance against New Zealand. She made three hits in that game, including a memorable home run, a sign of the talent that would define her career. That same year, she accepted a softball scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport, cementing her spot in the Australian lineup on first base and later taking up her position on the right side of the field.
Cox’s career has spanned 127 caps for Australia, highlighted by her participation in multiple World Championships, including the 2012 World Championships, and her representation of Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She continued to compete at the highest level, playing in 23 international tournaments and showcasing her versatility and skill in every game.
Her most recent achievements include playing in the 2022 World Games and representing Australia at the 2024 World Cup. Over the past 15 years, Cox has been a vital part of Softball Australia's national women’s team, the Aussie Spirit, playing alongside some of the country's best players and contributing to the team’s success on the international stage.
