Game 1: QLD v NSW 11:00AM AEDT

NSW 13 def QLD 11
NSW: 13R 11H 0E
QLD: 11R 10H 3E

New South Wales open their account by clinching an eight-inning thriller over Queensland – the defending champions.

The early momentum was with QLD as they registered back-to-back four-run scores, getting out to an 8-3 lead, but NSW kept in it by scoring two in the third and holding QLD scoreless.

NSW then got to work in the fourth, bringing home six to take a three run lead.

QLD found their way to level the game in the seventh but could not find a reply to the two that NSW brought home in the eighth.

Matt Beach pitched seven, taking eight strike outs along the way and did well to shake off a scary hit to the head late in the game to stay in the game and close out QLD for no runs in the eighth.

Game 3: VIC v NSW 1:30PM AEDT

NSW 9 def VIC 4
NSW: 9R 9H 2E
VIC: 4R 3H 1E

New South Wales make it back-to-back wins and finish their day one fixtures undefeated.

They hit the ground running after a 24-run hit out against Queensland, putting two on the board early against Victoria in the first.

The hosts then held NSW scoreless in the second, but were unable to find their own path home.

In the third, VIC brought the pressure, taking two outs for no score, until Caden Keed helped break through the defence with a scoring single, before being brought home by Harrison Pudner’s homerun. NSW finished the inning with a 6-0 lead.

VIC found their way back into the game, holding NSW to just one run from the next two innings, and finding four of their own to bring the score back to 7-4. But two more runs in the sixth for NSW and a clean defence gave them their second win.

Game 4: QLD v ACT 4:00PM AEDT

QLD 6 def ACT 5
QLD: 6R 6H 1E
ACT: 5R 8H 3E

Queensland deny the ACT an undefeated start to take their first win of the tournament.

It was the second eight-inning game of the day for QLD and another tight one for both teams.

1-1 in the first, QLD edged ahead 3-2 by the end of the second thanks to Corie List’s single that scored Aiden Blackmore and Sheldon Waller.

The ACT found their way back level straight away in the third and there it remained locked until the sixth.

Lachlan Spinelli’s RBI single gave the ACT an edge in the sixth, but QLD dug deep and found the tying run in the seventh.

Both teams scored in the tie-breaker inning with Jeremy Waters hitting the game-winning single to bring Matthew Moore home and end it 6-5.

Game 5: QLD v VIC 6:30PM AEDT

QLD 16 def VIC 15
QLD: 16R 14H 2E
VIC: 15R 12H 6E

Queensland outlast Victoria in a mammoth 3:10 game that almost went to a ninth inning.

QLD worked their way to a 4-0 lead, extending to 7-2 by the end of the third.

The home team brought themselves back into the game with five to level it at 7-7 as they headed to the bottom of the fourth.

Another two in the fourth and fifth extended QLD’s lead to three runs as they ended the sixth, with the win within sight.

However, VIC had other plans and fired through another five to take the lead for the first time in the sixth, extending it by one more in the bottom of the seventh.

Not to be outdone, QLD dug deep and found three crucial runs to tie the game in the seventh and force another inning at the minimum.

Still with no outs and loaded bases, it looked a sure thing for QLD, but VIC were steadfast in their defense from a very tricky spot.

They endured as QLD found hits, taking a forced out at home, a strikeout and a ground out at first base to end the inning from an entirely winnable position for QLD.

Another run was found by the hosts in the eighth to restore the lead.

Corie List scored on a wild pitch to level it and QLD were again in a controlling position. With two on-base, Cameron White took advantage of a wild pitch to come home and win it for QLD.

A truly epic game that is well worth a replay when you have a spare three hours and ten minutes!
