Game 17: ACT v INV 2:00PM AEST

INV 9 def ACT 7
INV: 9R 17H 6E
ACT: 7R 6H 0E

The Invitationals grab their second win of the tournament, narrowly defeating the ACT.

It was a measured start from the Invitational team as they worked their way to a one-run advantage.

Kyle Biggar worked his way to third with the assistance of Jamie Stojanovski and David Powell bunting to progress Biggar on base, but the ACT managed to cut out the danger.

Daniel Cousins then saw three hitters, striking two out and handing the bat right back to INV.

James Stewart found first from a single to start the second, and Scott Dean brought him home to bank the opening score.

The arm wrestle continued through the bottom of the second and into the third until the ACT broke through the gates to score five. Casey Warren’s 3RBI home run on two-outs giving the ACT a convincing lead.

They looked to hold firm in the fourth, taking two quick outs to open the inning, but Joseph Tobenhouse found his way on-base and Ben Medbury’s single brought Tobenhouse and Jeremy Farr home. INV kept the scoring going to tie the game heading into the bottom of the inning.

It stayed level until the sixth when INV found a crack through Powell’s single to score Medbury, and they built the lead to four in the seventh inning thanks to Scott Dean’s double and Joseph Tobenhouse’s 2RBI home run.

ACT chased the four-run-deficit, knowing they had the firepower against INV, but could only find two in the bottom of the seventh.

Game 18: NSW v WA 2:00PM AEST

NSW 6 def WA 3
NSW: 6R 6H 0E
WA: 3R 7H 0E

Heath Buswell’s seven strikeouts and one hit from four innings was not enough to stop hosts New South Wales from claiming the win against the tournament leaders, opening the door for a top-spot finish with one to play.

Jamie Sheehan and Ahitana Te-Kuru combined to take nine strikeouts and help restrict the big hitters of WA to just three runs.

Glenn Lynch top-scored for NSW with his 2RBI home run over a team that had allowed only nine runs against in the three days prior.

New South Wales did the bulk of their scoring in the fifth inning, scoring five of six to set up the come-from-behind win.

Doney added a 2RBI home run to his performance, as NSW bagged four to bring about the runs-ahead-rule in the fifth.

INV end the round robin in fourth place but will not play finals.

OVER 35 WOMEN'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
DAY 4 SCHEDULE:

Game 16: SA v ACT 11:30AM AEST

ACT 18 def SA 2
ACT: 18R 14H 3E
SA: 2R 2H 7E

The ACT take their second win in style, scoring eight in the second to set up a 16-run victory to open day four.

Candice Levesque top scored for the ACT with 4RBIs, with Belinda Severin adding three more.

South Australia couldn’t find an answer to the potency of the ACT attack as they split pitching duties three ways. It didn’t matter who SA put forth to attempt to shutdown their work with the bat, as the ACT managed an impressive 1RBI score from every member of the team.

Virginia Morris pitched all five for ACT, taking four strikeouts and allowing only two hits.

The win does not confirm finals for ACT, but puts the pressure on SA to find a result against the undefeated hosts.

Justine Smethurst found an edge for QLD in the fifth, scoring Nikki Molander, and popped up once more in the sixth to add another.

Game 18: SA v NSW 4:30PM AEST

NSW: 15R 15H 3E

New South Wales have denied South Australia’s bid for a debut finals berth in the O35 Women’s National Championships.

Kelly McNaughton top scored with 4RBIs as NSW scored in four of five innings to trigger the runs-ahead-rule.

South Australia had some success with the bat, scoring three from eight hits against a team that has only allowed eight runs coming into the final day.

The win is the seventh for NSW and leaves the door open for a perfect round robin and secures top spot in the standings.

Game 19: ACT v QLD 4:30PM AEST

QLD 8 def ACT 4
QLD: 8R 11H 1E
ACT: 4R 7H 1E

Queensland finish strong against ACT, scoring six in the final two innings to edge out the ACT by four.

ACT allowed very little for the QLD hitters, keeping the game level after five hotly contested innings.

QLD found some momentum in the sixth as Micaela Harrington made the most of an error before Sandy Holden’s triple scored Leisha White and Teale McKell’s single brought home Holden.

White stepped up again in the seventh to score 3RBIS from her double and double the advantage.

The ACT gave chase in the seventh thanks to Belinda Severin’s double, but the late charge from QLD could not be overcome.

The win puts QLD in the driver’s seat for a top-two finish, as Victoria will need to do what none have managed yet – defeat NSW – to secure the double-chance come finals.

Game 20: NSW v VIC 7:00PM AEST

NSW 14 def VIC 2
NSW: 14R 17H 0E
VIC: 2R 4H 4E

New South Wales fire 10 past Victoria in a statement second-inning, setting up a 14-2 win to finish the round robin undefeated.

The hosts found it hard to miss with the bat as they connected for 17 hits in just four innings, handing VIC their biggest loss of the tournament so far.

Michelle Gorisse took six strikeouts to help contain the VIC hitters, allowing four hits.

Rebecca Casaclang was the lead scorer for NSW with 3RBIs, with Kelly McNaughton adding two more.

The results means New South Wales will face Queensland for a spot in the Grand Final, while Victoria will have to go the long way as they face ACT without a safety net.
