Day 4 Schedule:

Game 15: ACT v QLD 9:30AM AEDT

ACT 4 def QLD 2
ACT: 4R 2H 2E
QLD: 2R 1H 2E

The ACT secure their second win of the tournament, reducing the gap to QLD to two points.

There’s wasn’t a lot between the two teams as they came together for the third and final time. Julian Jemmott managed to score on a wild pitch in the first, but otherwise the ACT kept the inning tight.

Matthew Wickham hit a homerun as a reply in the second, scoring Joshua White, and then Jay Selu helped keep QLD scoreless in the second.

QLD found their equaliser in the fourth on a Shannon Goffer double to score Caleb Vandegriendt, but that was all the ACT gave up.

In the fifth, Jarrod Bradbury gave the ACT an edge, helping score two in a bases loaded and two-outs situation.

David Watson closed out the game, pitching three innings in total to allow no hits or runs and give the hosts a boost on the last day of the round robin.

Game 16: QLD v NSW 12:00PM AEDT

NSW 5 def QLD 0
NSW: 5R 10H 0E
QLD: 0R 4H 2E

New South Wales are just one win away from a perfect run in the Open Men’s National Championships as they close out a 5-0 victory over Queensland.

The bulk of the damage came in the second inning as Hayden Mathews hit a first-pitch homerun to clear the loaded bases to put NSW ahead 4-0.

NSW were otherwise restricted by the QLD field, allowing just one more run in the fourth.

Harrison Peters pitched 7.0, allowing four hits and taking 12 strike outs, helping NSW keep a lid on a QLD batting line-up that have proven their run-scoring prowess throughout the tournament.

Game 17: VIC v NSW 2:30PM AEDT

NSW 20 def VIC 3
NSW: 20R 15H 0E
VIC: 3R 6H 2E

New South Wales finish the round robin in style, putting on a batting clinic to score 20 in four innings – nine in the second alone.

James Todhunter was the biggest contributor to the homerun show for NSW, scoring 6RBIs from 3ABs – or should we say from three homeruns.

It didn’t seem to matter who had the ball in hand for Victoria, the NSW hitters couldn’t miss, sending eight out of the park to score 14 of the 20 runs.

A heat break gave some respite for VIC to reset and come back out in the fourth to try and salvage something from the game, but NSW were just too strong on the day.

Game 18: VIC v ACT 5:00PM AEDT

ACT 6 def VIC 1
ACT: 6R 8H 0E
VIC: 1R 4H 1E

The ACT take a confident win against Victoria to wrap up the round robin.

VIC took the early lead after holding the ACT scoreless in the top of the first, before Adam Talarico’s homerun attempt to light a spark.

But it was a strong defensive performance for the ACT, and they ensured VIC had to work incredible hard for very little.

Bolton Nussbaum helped the ACT make some ground with the bat with 2RBIs and Matthew Wickham also scored 2RBIs, including a near-perfect homerun well over the middle, to put a bow on the performance for the hosts.
