Day 1 Schedule:

Game 1: QLD v NSW 11:00AM AEDT

NSW 11 def QLD 0
NSW: 11R 8H 0E
QLD: 0R 0H 1E

Jack Besgrove and Harri Peters combine for a no hitter and Mitchell Brownlow's scores 7RBIs from 3ABs to get New South Wales' John Reid Shield defense off to a flying start.

Brownlow got the scoring started for NSW in the first with a single to score Hayden Mathews and Peter Wards and NSW ended the first with three on the board.

Queensland then had the task of getting into the game with the bat, against no less than Aussie Steelers' 2023 World Cup Final star - Jack Besgrove.

QLD managed to find their way on base through two walks, but could not manage a hit against Besgrove and ended the inning scoreless.

Brownlow then stepped up again in the third to hit his first of two home runs for the day, scoring James Todhunter in the process.

Game 2: VIC v ACT 11:00AM AEDT

VIC 12 def ACT 11
VIC: 12R 10H 1E
ACT: 11R 9H 3E

Victoria held on to take their opening win against the ACT in a three-hour, nine-inning thriller.

The ACT mounted a five-run comeback to tie the game in the seventh, after falling behind 8-3 by the end of the fourth.

Scoring three in the fifth, they kept Victoria to just one more in the fifth and scored in sixth and seventh innings to tie the game 9-9.

George Psimaris hit the game-winning single in the ninth inning to score Adam Talarico and Cody Smith as part of a 4RBI outing for the Victorian third baseman.

Nicholas Norton and Matthew Wickham both scored 4RBIs from 5ABS for the ACT.

Game 3: ACT v NSW 1:30PM AEDT

NSW 8 def ACT 0
NSW: 8R 11H 0E
ACT: 0R 3H 0E

Jeremy Garland led the hitters with 4RBIs from 3ABs as New South Wales take a second convincing win on day one.

The ACT had to jump into this tough clash with a minimal break after their nine-inning marathon opener against Victoria, but they took to the field and held NSW to just the single score in the first.

The second inning was where NSW took control with the bat, with two runners on base, Garland stepped up to hit a home run and add three to the score, followed by a Hayden Mathews single two score two and finish the second 6-0.

There wasn’t much more given up by the ACT fielders, allowing just two more from the next three innings, but the pitching and outfield for NSW made the task of scoring with the bat challenging for the ACT, allowing the hosts just three hits and no runs.

Game 4: QLD v VIC 4:00PM AEDT

QLD 11 def VIC 4
QLD: 11R 8H 0E
VIC: 4R 7H 1E

Queensland take their first win after scoring six in the bottom of the fourth to trigger the runs-ahead-rule in the fifth.

After their opening fixture loss to NSW, QLD got off to a hot start against Victoria, scoring five in the opening two innings, while keeping the VIC batters scoreless.

Keenan Smith and Shannon Goffer combined for 5RBIs, including Smith’s homerun to score John Nash in the second inning.

VIC did their best to get back into the game, scoring twice in the third and fourth innings, but Regan O’Neill’s homerun to start the bottom of the fourth was just the start of the batting onslaught that QLD brought about to create the seven-run buffer.

Game 5: QLD v ACT 6:30PM AEDT

QLD 12 def ACT 11
QLD: 12R 8H 6E
ACT: 11R 7H 5E

Queensland fend off a gutsy ACT side who take their second loss in a ninth inning on day one.

The right contest was leaning towards QLD as they worked their way to a 7-3 lead by the end of the sixth.

Nathan Lynch gave the ACT a glimmer of hope, hitting a homerun as the second batter in the seventh. The hosts then found themselves in a do-or-die situation, with two outs and two runners on base making for a nervous moment for both teams.

Matthew Wickham wasn’t fazed by his 2-1 count either, hitting one out of the park to score three and tie the game. The ACT then held QLD scoreless and headed to an eighth inning… again.

The momentum took a swing in favour of the hosts as they scored another four runs to take what seemed like a commanding lead out of the top of the ninth.

Caleb Vandegriendt had other plans for QLD with a homerun to add three and make it 10-11. With the momentum having swung back in their favour, QLD found their winning runs on a Jeremy Waters triple to score Jesse Barnes and Shaun Goffer to end it after a touch over three hours.
