Summary: Over 35 Women
New South Wales and Queensland carried their good form into the early part of Day 2, with respective wins over the ACT and Victoria. Nicole Molander and Kathy Rosenberg did the damage with the bat for the Maroons, combining for five hits, four runs, and three RBIs against Victoria, while the Blues’ Suzanne Fairhurst and Lisa Mikkelsen shut out ACT from the pitching circle.
However, the ACT bounced back with a solid 7-0 win over the Big V, their first victory of the tournament. Cristine McSavaney led the way with the bat for the ACT, scoring two runs and a pair of RBIs, while Michelle Gorisse recorded nine strikeouts for the defence. Queensland then handed NSW their first loss of the Nationals in a high-quality contest that needed an extra inning to decide the result. The Blues added one run in the 8th but it wasn’t enough, as Fiona Timu and Nicole Molander batted in runners for the home team.
Queensland carried their momentum into the next game against the ACT, piling on seven unanswered runs in the first inning to set up a 17-0 win. Maroons pitcher Sandra Holden recorded 10 strike outs, and was just one walk away from a perfect game. The earlier loss to Queensland may have stung NSW into action, because they reasserted themselves in their 14-3 win over Victoria. Eight NSW batters registered hits, with Simone McIntosh finishing with an impressive two hits, two runs, and five RBIs.

Day 3 What to Watch For: Over 35 Women
The game between NSW and Queensland at 11 am on Day 3 will go a long way to deciding the top seed going into finals. The teams have split their games so far, and neither side looks like dropping a game against the ACT or Victoria. however, the other game at 11am will also likely decide the number three seed for finals, and a win in either game could also give a mental edge before Wednesday. We should be set up for a cracking start to Day 3.
Summary: Over 35s Men
The ACT served up perhaps the first upset of the tournament early on Day 2, with a hard-fought 3-2 win over NSW. Steven Hoffman pitched all seven innings for the ACT, and did enough to keep the Blues in check with seven strikeouts. Queensland kept their undefeated start to the tournament alive with a 15-6 win over NSW Invitational in their first game of the day, but it all came crashing down shortly after, with the home state handed a 17-0 thumping by NSW. The Blues scored at will in the 2nd inning, rounding 13 runners in the frame, with six RBIs to Richard Sullivan a highlight of the NSW box score.
NSW Invitational also recorded their first win on Day 2, getting over the line in a high-scoring encounter against the ACT. The middle-order did the majority of the damage for the composite team, with Jamie Barrington, Casey Warren, and Joseph Tobenhouse combining for nine RBIs in the 14-13 win. However, any joy for NSW Invitational was short-lived, handed a 19-2 defeat by NSW. Eight batters scored runs for the Blues with Ben Kelly perhaps the standout, scoring four runs, four hits, and four RBIs from four at-bats.
Queensland amassed a remarkable 23 runs in their late game against the ACT. 12 of the Maroon’s runs came in the first innings, which featured a solo home run and a grand slam by Luke Vandegriendt. Nathan Brown and Michael Labrador offered up some resistance for the ACT, scoring a combined five RBIs, but the home team rarely looked challenged.

Day 3 What to Watch For: Over 35 Men
While Queensland and New South Wales continued their dominance on Day 2, the Blues dropped a game against the ACT, while the home state looked completely off their game in their 17-0 defeat against NSW. However, Queensland’s offence is incredibly formidable, and a win against the Blues in their first game tomorrow should be enough to shore up 1st place before the finals.
As predicted yesterday, NSW Invitational are improving with every game, while the ACT is the only team to score a win against either NSW or Queensland outside of those teams. Teams on Day 3 will be looking to secure the highest possible ranking as early as possible to ease their rotations, so the early games should be hotly contested.
