Career & Education

Our Career and Education program provides athletes with a wide range of resources and opportunities to assist in their academic and professional growth. Using a variety of educational tools and platforms, athletes are able to investigate diverse career options, strengthen their skills, and acquire important work experience.

The Australian Institute of Sport Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Career and Education Program guarantees that athletes are equipped with the essential tools and connections to thrive in all areas of their lives.

The CPRN enables Australia’s categorised athletes’, high performance coaches and high performance staff members to access to a variety of professional career advice and guidance services.

Access and bookings are available through Softball Australia Performance Wellbeing Manager (peta.searle@softball.org.au)

The list of services provided by the CPRN include:

  • Career Guidance

  • Career Planning

  • Career Exploration

  • Career Skill Building

  • Employment Support

  • Fast Track Career Advice

The Elite Athlete Education Network (EAEN) through partnered Universities, TAFE’s and other education providers helps to support elite athletes for the duration of their course study. This ensures their experience on campus is one that is rewarding, flexible and helps them acquire the right skills and qualifications needed to follow their passions and interests outside of sport.

The guiding principles of the universities include:

  • Appointing a key staff member at each university to assist elite athletes;

  • Provide advice and guidance on academic planning

  • Negotiate flexibility to meet academic requirements

  • Tailoring academic study loads to integrate with sporting commitments

The EAEN is accessible to all current categorised and alumni athletes and high performance coaches.

The Elite Athlete TAFE Network incorporates a selected number of TAFE institutions across Australia providing specialised support to elite athletes to pursue vocational pathways. Vocational education helps prepare athletes for a range of jobs and employment in such industries as business, building and construction, sport and fitness as well as many growing and fast changing creative, media and IT industry occupations.

Like the well-established University Network, from July the Elite Athlete TAFT Network has an Elite Athlete Student Athlete Coordinator within the TAFE location to support elite athletes in their pursuit of study and balance their study with sport. The TAFE network offers a personalised and flexible approach to learning skills and gaining qualifications.

The inaugural AIS Virtual Internships Program is back in 2024. Available to Categorised athletes, the program aims to prepare participants for their post-athletic careers. This accessible internship gives athletes the opportunity to gain firsthand work experience in their field of study while allowing for the flexibility to fit the placement around their demanding schedules.

If you are interested in the Virtual Internship Opportunity, please contact Softball Australia Performance Wellbeing Manager (peta.searle@softball.org.au) to discuss your eligibility.
