Softball Queensland acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the Brisbane region, the clans that identify as being a part of the Turrbal and Jagera peoples. I wish to acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and their contribution to the life of Brisbane and this region. I would like to acknowledge and welcome other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who may be attending this event.

With immense joy and anticipation, we extend a warm welcome to individuals from across Queensland and interstate for the Joyce Lester Shield. At Softball Queensland, we take great pride in being the host of this prestigious national event, an occasion that brings together talent, passion, and the spirit of competition.

The diamonds here at Downey Park are not just fields of play; they are canvases upon which stories of athleticism, teamwork, and camaraderie unfold. We are excited to witness the unfolding of the next chapter of international talent, as players from diverse backgrounds come together to showcase their skills and love for the game. My thanks also to the Brisbane Softball Association and its volunteers who will help make these National championships an enjoyable and rewarding experience. It should never be forgotten that without the dedication of these ‘off-diamond’ participants, events such as this wouldn’t happen.

Congratulations to all players on your selection to represent your state team. It is an honour that you have earned, so wear your uniform with pride and represent your state with dignity. For those of you who have goals of achieving higher representation in the future, participating in these championships will help prepare you for things to come.

A heartfelt thank you to all the dedicated staff and volunteers, both from Softball Australia and Softball Queensland, who have invested countless hours planning and organising every aspect of this event. Your commitment is the backbone of the seamless experiences that participants and spectators alike are set to enjoy.

To all the players, coaches, officials, statisticians, and umpires who will be integral to the vibrancy of this event, we extend a sincere welcome. We wish each participant the very best, and as you step onto the diamonds, may your endeavours be marked by the essence of Jennie Finch’s wisdom: "Try not to get lost in comparing yourself to others. Discover your gifts and let them shine."

In the spirit of fair play, sportsmanship, and shared love for softball, good luck to everyone, and may the 2025 Joyce Lester Shield be a memorable testament to the beauty of our beloved sport.
